DesignMind Deakin University’s research-led design and innovation platform promotes Design’s fundamental ability to add value to businesses, facilitate change and enable happier, healthier and safer lives for all. DesignMind recognises the power of Design for creating impactful research and as a key driver of product, process, organisational and social innovation. DesignMind expands on the existing diverse expertise across Deakin and aims to integrate these efforts by building a distinct Design Culture across the University and with the City of Greater Geelong, a UNESCO City of Design.

Advocating and facilitating world class, design led research DesignMind builds on the existing and diverse expertise of Deakin University research capability, depth and quality by developing targeted commercial research partnerships. Operating on the foundation of human centred design methods DesignMind champions design as an agent of change to help develop environmental, social and economic solutions that will have systemic impact for society as a whole. DesignMind provides a global touch point for multidisciplinary design research and innovation activity at Deakin University which is headquartered in Australia’s UNESCO City of Design .


DesignMind Trans-Disciplinary and Design Innovation Education

DesignMind is an international leader in Trans-Disiplinary and Design Innovation education. We support a methodologically destinct approach to knowedge production where students work together towards commonly formulated desires solving complex real-world problems. Trans-disciplinary & cross-faculty course will be a first in addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development goals through Design and Systems Thinking.

Working together for a Clever and Creative Geelong

In 2017, the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) designated Geelong as a City of Design making it Australia’s first and only City of Design. Geelong’s exclusive membership into the UNESCO Network is in recognition of its history of design and demonstration of design led innovations to creative a strong and sustainable economy. DesignMind and the City of Greater Geelong are work together through Research and Education to bring this designation to life and make it tangible for Geelong. “Geelong, UNESCO City of Design”.
